During the Pokemon series, you can evolve your Pokemon into different forms, making them stronger and more prepared for the battles ahead. Whether you evolve your Pokemon by leveling them up, or by exposing them to an item that causes them to evolve, seeing what your Pokemon evolve is one of the most exciting parts of your Pokemon adventure.
Many of the Pokemon that you can encounter on your travels can have one or more changes in form depending on how you decide to develop them. These are just a few of the Pokémon with branching evolution streaks available that have the best concepts and are known for their clever and unique designs.
10 Choose the flower: melancholy
This poisonous plant can develop into two separate forms depending on which evolutionary stone you use to develop it. You can get Vileplume by using Leaf Stone on Gloom, while Bellossom requires the use of Sun Stone.
Although both are inspired by plants, Vileplume is similar to Rafflesia. Also known as the “corpse flower,” this large plant is said to give off a foul odor which earned it its name. By comparison, Belllossom has a more cheerful design, likely due to its exposure to sunlight.
9 Guitars in Ready: Toxel
Toxel is an electric and venomous type Pokemon introduced in Sword and Shield. Known as “Baby Pokemon”, it can be obtained from an NPC in the Pokemon Nursery on Route 5, and can be encountered in the wild on Route 7 as a surprise encounter or in the Wild area. Toxel evolves into Toxtricity at level 30; However, there are two different versions of Toxtricity that you can get depending on the nature of your Pokemon.
The Amped form of Toxtricity is purple and yellow and has one mohawk, while the low key form of Toxtricity is purple and blue with two mohawks. If you want a specific model, you will have to look for a Toxel that has the right nature. Otherwise, you can pick the first Toxel you come across, leaving its evolution a surprise.
8 Ice cold: Snorunt
Snow Hat Pokemon, Snorunt is an ice-type Pokemon that can evolve into Froslass or Glalie depending on how you choose to evolve it. Female Snorunt can evolve into Froslass when she uses Dawn Stone on her which are Ice and Ghost-type Pokemon. Unlike Glalie, Froslass is human-like in appearance and many Pokedex entries say that women who are lost in the “snowy mountains” are reborn as Froslass.”
Glalie does not require an evolutionary stone to get it and evolves from Snorunt at level 42. If you want to evolve your Shiny Snorunt into Froslass, you better hope it’s female, otherwise you won’t be so lucky.
7 Give it a whirl: Poliwhirl
Poliwhirl is a Generation One Water type Pokemon known for the spiral pattern on its front, and is said to be drowsy if you find yourself in bondage. A Poliwhirl will evolve into a Poliwrath when affected by a water stone, or a Politoed if you trade it while in possession of a king rock.
Poliwrath has a similar design to Poliwhirl, continuing the blue color scheme. On the other hand, Politoed successfully reaches its full potential, changing from a tadpole to a frog. The fact that it evolves into a frog Pokemon through the use of King’s Rock may be a reference to the fairy tale, The Frog Prince. Politoed certainly lives up to her royal status, as her Pokedex entries describe how Poliwag and Poliwhirl respond to her cries, considering her as their leader.
6 Stylish Fighters: Kyrelia
A psychic and mythical Pokemon, Kirlia evolves into a Gardevoir at level 30, or Gallade, a psychic and combative Pokemon, if you use the Dawn Stone on Kirlia’s mention. Aside from differences in genre, Gardevoir and Gallade have different designs, with Gardevoir continuing Kirlia’s ballerina-like look.
The Gallade design is more suited to its combative nature, with a more blade-like appearance. Pokemon designers have done a great job capturing the common heritage of these Pokemon, while still making them unique from one another. Each evolution offers something new, both in terms of combat and design.
5 Ruff’s Choice: Rockruff
The adorable pup Pokemon, Rockruff, is a must-have Pokemon for dog lovers. However, you will want to choose carefully when choosing between Sun and Ultra Sun or Moon and Ultra Moon, as they can evolve into Midday Form Lycanroc (in Sun and Ultra Sun), Midnight Form Lycanroc (in Moon and Ultra Moon), or Dusk Form Lycanroc if you are lucky enough to get Rockruff with Ability Own Tempo.
If you develop a Rockruff during the day, it will develop into a midday shape, which is very similar in design to the Rockruff. Whereas, if you develop a Rockruff at night, it will develop into a midnight figure, which resembles a werewolf, standing on two legs with glowing red eyes. If you develop a Rockruff with Own Tempo, it will evolve into a Dusk Form Lycanroc, which has an orange coat similar to the sky at dusk.
4 Abilene Day: Abilene
This apple-inspired Pokemon is just as versatile as the fruit it was then designed to become, either Flapple, if you use Tart Apple on it, or Appletun, if you use Sweet Apple. The Applin is actually not the apple itself, but a wyrm-like creature that lives inside it.
If you develop an Applin into a Flapple, it takes on a dragon-like appearance, using apple peels as wings for flight. Instead, the Appletun build prefers the good looks, with its body resembling an apple pie. The various developments in Applin are a great way to take advantage of its clever design, giving this dragon a fruity touch.
3 Everyone was fighting Kupfu: Kupfu
Kubfu was introduced in the Isle of Armor expansion pack for Sword and Shield and is separate from a lot of other legends in the series because it can evolve into two variants – Single Strike Style Urshifu and Rapid Strike Style Urshifu.
During your adventure on The Isle of Armor, you get to choose between whether you want to train Kubfu in the Dark Tower or the Water Tower. Training Kubfu in Tower of Darkness will evolve him into Single Strike Style Urshifu, a combative and dark Pokemon. Whereas, training Kubfu in a water tower will result in him becoming Rapid Strike Style Urshifu, a combat and water Pokemon. The different Kubfu skins are a fun way to make this legendary Pokemon unique, incorporating the martial arts theme of The Isle of Armor.
2 Cosmic Evolution: Cosmoem
Similar to Kubfu, Cosmoem is another Legendary Pokémon that can evolve into two different forms – the Sun-inspired Pokémon, Solgaleo, or the Moon Pokémon, Lunala. Solgaleo is available in Sun, Ultra Sun, and Sword, and Lunala is available in Moon, Ultra Moon, and Shield.
Cosmoem developments are an interesting way to honor the astronomy theme of the sun and moon. As the main game’s legendary Pokemon, Cosmoem plays a huge role in the game’s story. First introduced as Nebby, Lillie’s hilarious Cosmog, it’s fun to see the Pokemon’s growth throughout the story, eventually reaching its true mythical potential.
1 You must evolve everything: Evie
Perhaps the most complex example of a branching line of evolution, Eevee can evolve into eight different variants, earning it the nickname “Evolution Pokemon”. Each of Evie’s evolutions has a different variant that corresponds to their distinct looks. When it comes to choosing which model to choose, you can’t go wrong, as each Pokémon offers something new while sticking to the cool Eevee concept.
Along with Pikachu, Eevee has become one of the most popular Pokémon in the series, and all his evolutions are memorable. The only problem with Evie developments is deciding which one to choose.
