BaoBros23 and Banh Vi also join The French Chef for food indies line-up
New Century City (formerly New Century Hall) is nearly finished. The gigs have been announced, the electricity has been fixed and now the independent foodie has been revealed. At the top of the list will be Adam Reed of French fame who brought a unique concept to the butter bar with Banh Vi of Altrincham and Manchester newbies BaoBros23 also joining the party.
Three unannounced vendors will also join the New Century menu, but you’ll have to wait a little longer for that announcement. Space is great. The ground floor will feature 10,000 square feet of kitchen space and seat up to 300 people, with six foodies sitting alongside New Century’s coffee and fast food concepts.
The Butty Shop will offer specialty sandwiches inspired by childhood bakery journeys
The Grade II listed venue, located in the Green Quarter between Victoria Station and Schudhill, is currently nearing the end of its £10m conversion. The three-story venue will host a mix of live music, entertainment, educational events, and independent foodies.
Revival of the Great British Butter
People familiar with Adam Reed’s fine dining restaurant The French at the Midland Hotel might be surprised to hear about Great British menu Chef’s latest winning project.
Butty Shop will bring specialty sandwiches inspired by childhood bakery travels to the venue with classic Nordic flavours. In a move reminiscent of Brad Carter’s One Star Doner bar, a low-key staple with a gastronomic twist, The Butty Shop will serve sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Channeling the familiar gourmet dining ethos of well-sourced, high-quality ingredients, the sandwiches (fillings yet to be announced) will be served alongside “classic baked sides” including pickled eggs and potato salad.
Banh Vi and BaoBros23 bring Asian-inspired flavors to the Green Quarter
The bill for the dining hall has also been set in the new century, and will be an Altrincham Banh Vi favourite. The Asian-inspired vegan restaurant, which currently has an outpost at Altrincham Market, will bring its popular veganism to Thai and Vietnamese classics. Signature dishes include a vegetarian selection of the classic Baan Mee baguette as well as dishes of pho and summer rolls. Vietnamese sweet charged coffee comes standard as well.
They will be joined by award-winning BaoBros23. The winner of the ‘People’s Choice’ award for the 2021 British Street Food Awards will make his debut in Manchester. The father-and-son team will bring award-winning bao to the ground floor food court with variations on the existing food truck and festival menu including lobster ‘baodog’ as well as truffle halloumi fries.
The brand, best known for its pop-up appearance at Riverhead Brewery Tap in Marsden, emphasizes sustainably sourced products as well as a low-waste ethos. Menus change weekly with an ever-changing selection of Bao’s creations, loaded fries and delicious desserts.
Both vendors will provide space in the New Century’s indoor bar that will serve beer, wine, and a full cocktail list as well as coffee, tea, smoothies and juices.
In case you missed it, party ads started popping up thick and fast. Artists already announced for the new live space include Stereolab, Oliver Sim, Los Bitchos and Toro Y Mois, with more scheduled to be announced in the coming months.
