Big Olaf Creamery from Sarasota, Florida Remembers all flavors and all lots of Big Olaf ice cream products due to possible contamination Listeria monocytogenesIt is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria The infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth among pregnant women.

The product was sold at Big Olaf retail stores in Florida as well as to consumers in restaurants and seniors’ homes, and one location in Fredericksburg, Ohio.

Big Olaf’s brand ice cream was sold to consumers in pint-size plastic containers, two-gallon plastic containers, and 2.5-gallon plastic tubs, which could be sold to independent retailers. All flavors, cuts, codes and all expiration dates up to 30/6/2022 are included in this recall.

Based on epidemiological information shared by the CDC and state officials, Big Olaf may be a potential source of disease in the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak.

On Friday, July 1, 2022, Big Olaf Creamery was notified of an investigation into the outbreak by the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and immediately ceased production and distribution of the ice cream product.

As of Friday, July 8, 2022, the CDC reports that a total of 23 people have contracted the outbreak strain. Listeria monocytogenes out of 10 states. 18 people interviewed reported eating ice cream, and 10 reported eating Big Olaf Creamery brand ice cream or eating at locations that may have been supplied by Big Olaf Creamery. This is an ongoing investigation and other ice cream brands not associated with Big Olaf have been cited as a possible source as well.

Big Olaf Creamery and all supplier retailers have not received any complaints regarding defect or illness in the product. No formal complaints have been filed with the Florida Department of Health as of July 1, 2022.

Based on the information provided and based on ongoing investigations, the company has ceased production and distribution of the ice cream product and is currently working with the Food and Drug Administration through a voluntary recall of the product.

Big Olaf is fully cooperating with regulatory authorities to successfully return all suspected products and has asked retailers to halt sales and dispose of the product. Consumers who have purchased Big Olaf Ice Cream products should not consume and dispose of these products immediately. Clean any areas, containers, and serving utensils that may have come into contact with ice cream.
