#22. Read about it. I dreamed of it. I went for her order…and she went.

That was the tale of many who read about the sandwich collaboration between the Italian sausage company and chef James Chang. The sandwich shop and Taiwan-born chef have come together to make delicious jams packed with all the good stuff, including James Chang’s famous chili oil.

However, since most of the sandwich shop collaborations offer, the sub-high has only been on the menu for a short period of time. Many hungry citizens found themselves running late for ready-to-eat foods and left empty-handed.

Some good news for those who have had to turn them away at the counter – the sandwich is back. And permanently this time. 22 Filled with pastrami and salami, then topped with works: Chili oil infused with house red wine olives, oil, garlic aioli, tomatoes, lettuce, burrata cheese, and black pepper.

All ingredients are stacked in a crunchy demi baguette from Strawberry Hill. This may not be the typical sandwich that the Italian sausage company is known for, but the combination of house-made olive red wine sauce with chili oil makes it truly one of a kind.

The Italian sausage company is also adding a spicy version of #5, the famous Sicilian mavalita sandwich. It consists of layers of mortadella, salami, provolone, ham, swiss cheese, and ji Chang Kitchen pepper oil.

The Italian Sausage Company is headquartered at 7315 North Oak Trafficway, Gladstone, MO 64118. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm.

Happy 5th birthday to Scott’s Kitchen

Scott Kitchen and Catering, one of KC’s hidden gems, is celebrating its fifth year in the business by giving us all its meat sweats. The barbecue joint is best known for its excellent breakfast and lunch menu, which consists of the usual barbecue meat and sandwiches, but also offers house-made sausages, burritos, bowls, and even tacos.

The competition background of owner, Scott Umshade, shines through every menu item as all meat is smoked only the day before.

To honor five years of success, the restaurant serves up the Smoke Alarm Meat Plate. The mega meal includes burnt ends, Chipotle Ghost Pepper Jack cheese sausage, three St. Louis ribs, and two sides of your choice for $25.

The special offer is available until the end of the month. I highly recommend the jalapeño coleslaw, the perfect side for chopping any juicy meat you might be feeding on.

Scott’s Kitchen and Catering is located at 11920 N Ambassador Dr., Kansas City, MO 64153. They are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Ugly Dinner series starring Fox and Pearl

At the beginning of the year, the Ugly Diner chain at Kanbe Market began with the task of doing Cinderella’s job of turning imperfect produce into mouth-watering meals.

The non-profit organization works to eliminate food insecurity by salvaging products that would otherwise end up in landfills. Whether a product is deemed unfit due to excess or defects, much of it is still edible. Therefore, the market collaborates with local chefs in Kansas City to prepare a meal with “ugly” food.

Previous dinners have featured chefs from Chewology and The Campground. Next dinner is on July 20The tenth She’ll star in the beloved Kansas City-based Fox and Pearl.

Each chef has complete creative freedom to create a beautiful four-course meal using Kanbe’s Markets’ ugly produce. Wine pairings are also included, and tickets cost $100 per guest. Register for dinner at Kanbe’s Markets website.

The Fox and Pearl Ugly Dinner will be held July 20 at 2143 Summit St., Kansas City, MO 64108. Service 5:30-8 p.m.
