Foodies say this shop serves the best donuts in Lexington Kentucky

With nearly 2,000 votes over four rounds of competition, Herald Leader readers and eaters chose Spalding Bakery as their best shop for grabbing cakes in and around town.

The bakery, located at 760 Winchester Road in Lexington, beat our other competitor, Parlor Donuts, by a landslide. Spalding’s got 197 votes in our last round, while Parlor got 20 votes, or 9%.

A family-owned business that has been in business since 1929, according to its website, Spalding offers a variety of classic, yeast, and stuffed cakes. Plus, you can cut up apple pies, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes and more. They also serve custom cakes and other desserts upon request.

Our bracket competition was just for fun, and meant to highlight fan-favorite local businesses around town.

If you’re hungry for a donut after reading this, you’re in luck – here’s a brief description of all the stores we’ve featured and where you can find them.

Frank’s Donut: Frank’s Donuts is located on Third St. and offers menu offerings that range from classics like old-fashioned buns to stuffed specialties, like bear claws. Prices are low, too, with regular donuts coming in at less than a dollar. Site: 549 E. Third St., Lexington, KY 40508

North Lime Coffee and Donuts: Located in the renovated Greyline Station, North Lime advertises “handcrafted coffee and life-changing donuts.” The donut flavors are a little less traditional, and they also offer vegan options. Parlor Donuts: Although the company recently opened a location in Jacksonville, Florida, cake lovers in Lexington can find a local parlor on Euclid Street. OMG Donuts: A new donut shop in town has been a hit so far with customers buying the $1.19 classic donut along with croissants, bagels, coffee and more. The company shares menu items and updates on its Facebook page. Site: 3449 Buckhorn Drive, Lexington, KY 40515

Maggi Baking Company: Magee’s offers not only cake, but many other menu offerings that include breakfast and lunch. Yeast, cake and long john cake are offered in different flavors. Site: 726 E. Main Street, Lexington, KY 40502
