Grassroots Ice Cream vs Collins Creamery

(WFSB) – The search for Connecticut’s favorite ice cream continues.

We started with the top 20 list, now we need your help to get into the top ten!

Every week we will fight head-to-head battles.

This week between Grassroots Ice Cream in Granby and Collins Creamery in Enfield.

Two members of Channel Three’s morning crew headed to Granby where they might have tried just about every flavor in the can before lunch.

People keep coming back for more at Grassroots Ice Cream.

“We have all-natural ice cream with no artificial colors or flavors and we’re really off the charts, we’ll do anything,” Eliza said.

The Florian family and crew make 400 gallons of ice cream twice a week and sell it every week.

“You know what, there’s nothing we make hanging in the case. If it’s hanging in the can, we don’t make it again. We stir in about 200-300 flavors, and we get 36 flavors at a time. We just like to mix it up,” Eliza said.

These girls love to go to Grassroots and know exactly what to ask.

“What will you get?” Request Eyewitness News.

“Biscuit dough,” Riley said.

Rhylee got hot fudge on top, and Austin ordered a blood orange slice with hot fudge.

Elisa said that’s her goal, but if you’re not in this situation, trust them!

“I always tell them if you don’t like it, I’ll put it back together again. And I don’t think I ever put it back together again,” Elisa said.

They are known for their unique flavors, but they have the basics.

“I think we make the best chocolate and vanilla,” he told me.

Since 1997, the Collins family has been making fresh ice cream at Collins Creamery.

They have more than 30 flavors.

“It’s fantastic. I can’t say enough about it,” said Carol Tkach of Enfield.

“It’s the best. If you want to make my own home and choose several flavors, this is the place for you,” said Mary Smith of Enfield.

The owners love to make their customers happy.

Channel 3 Social Ice Cream Try Collins Creamery

Set on a farm with a barn and white picket fence, it’s more than just ice cream.

“It feels like you take such pride whenever you think of all the people who are so happy from this place,” said Michelle Bellafrente, co-owner of Collins Creamery.

“How many times have you come here?” Request Eyewitness News.

“At least once a week. Maybe twice. Maybe three times,” said Stu Grant of Enfield.

It’s really good,” said James Pereira of Enfield.

There are a lot of flavors at Collins Creamery, but a little birdie said there was a secret menu.

“Today we have French toast in Jordan, so it’s a maple base with a cinnamon toast mixture. It’s very good.”
