Jason Oppenheim from ‘Sunset Sale’ gets mail buddies five nights a week

sunset saleJason Oppenheim doesn’t just play a high-end realtor on TV. Between running one of the best real estate brokers in Los Angeles, producing and starring in one of the best reality series on Netflix – while also shooting a spin-off – along with his twin brother, life is very busy. This means that some things fell by the wayside, like cooking. But hitting the gym and hitting the city? Those are not negotiable.

With the fifth season of Sunset Sale now streaming on Netflix (and officially renewed for seasons 6 and 7), GQ He spoke with Oppenheim’s stronger, self-help twins to discuss how he manages stress in workouts, the quality of his game at Postmates, and why there’s always a place for ice cream.

GQ: How does a normal day start?

Jason Oppenheim: First thing I feed my dogs and then I get myself a cup of coffee. I don’t do much before my coffee. Then I follow up on phone calls and emails. I try to get out of the house and into the office by the age of 10. I’m usually in the office most of the day – running meetings or making appointments. I take about an hour for lunch with the staff. Every day is different but it’s a combination of meeting clients, narrating appointments, presentations, and then working a lot on my computer outside of the office.

I try to hit the gym at about five. The Equinox is about 100 feet from my desk, so every day I walk straight and do a quick workout and get back to the office. I try to finish around 6, come home and usually work from home in and out all night. I’ll watch some TV and call postmates every night. I’ll say five nights out of the week, I’ll ask postmates. The other two nights, I’m going out. Unfortunately, I don’t cook.

What are some of your favorite things about mail buddies?

I love Din Tai Fung, a Chinese dumpling restaurant – it’s one of my favorites. There is another restaurant here called Pace and they have great pasta and pizza and I order from them often. I order Sugarfish a lot when I want sushi – and I order Magnum ice cream all the time.

Don’t worry about the ice cream melting when it reaches you?

It usually comes out perfect because by the time it gets to my house you can just stick a spoon in it and it’s not too hard. I like it better when it softens a little. I get ice cream about three to four nights a week. I only eat twice a day, so I’m allowed to eat ice cream like that.

And can you maintain your energy throughout the day?

I don’t eat breakfast. I’ll have coffee in the morning, then lunch and dinner. I’m not really hungry in the morning. I usually eat at noon for my first meal and then I’ll have dinner around seven, and then I’ll have ice cream after that.

It looks like you can eat whatever you want.

I’m not very self-conscious, to be honest. I kind of eat what I want because I only eat twice a day. Today, I had a chicken panini sandwich, but I’ll have burgers, pasta and pizza. I cannot say that I am in good health. For me, it’s more about eating the right amount of calories. I don’t stuff myself, but I eat as much as I want.
