Myrtle Garrett Grinstead | Southwest Times

Myrtle Garrett Grinstead, 97, of Gastonia, formerly of Pulaski, Virginia, died on June 27, 2022, at Wellington House in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was born on May 13, 1925, in Hiawassee, GA, to the late Alfred Garrett and Christine Wright. Myrtle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gastonia, where she enjoyed participating in Bible study and crafting, and volunteering with Wednesday evening meals. She was an excellent cook, known for her delicious wraps, fried chicken and scrambled eggs. She loved baking cakes and cobblers, with a lot of favorite names being mentioned. The Myrtle family will cherish memories of their great meals and fun cooking parties at their home. Myrtle loved gardening (vegetables and flowers) and enjoyed canning the fruits of labor. Myrtle taught herself to sew. She became an excellent seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her family and friends. Myrtle learned to dance in Virginia. She was very active with her group and continued to dance after moving to Gastonia. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star Order, Pulaski Chapter #113, serving as Worthy Matron from 1984-1985. She was also a member of Rebecca. Myrtle was also a life member of VFW-Auxiliary Ladies #1184, as well as a life member of DAV. I worked as an assistant captain in the Cub Scouts, an assistant captain in the scouts, and volunteered with the American Red Cross for 30 years. During her time with the American Red Cross, her duties included taking information while working on blood cell phones. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded by her husband, Charles M. Grinstead. Sons, Barry M. and William F. Grinstead; and his brother Benjamin Jarrett. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Minnian Krenzer. daughter-in-law, Ivy Grinstead; grandchildren, Gunnard Segako (Sugar), Jason Grinstead (Nikki), Josh Grinstead, Wesley Brown (Sandra), Jimmy Brown, and Sarah Koiro (Joseph); Eleven great-grandchildren, uncle Jay Eller. A memorial service was held on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, 1503 S. York Rd. , Gastonia, NC. The family greeted friends an hour before the service at the funeral home. The family will be visited, 2-3 p.m., on Saturday 23 July 2022 at the Highland Memorial Gardens Shrine, Dublin, Virginia.
