Pinto’s Terrace serves southwestern-style dishes in Manahawkin

TThe Southwest meets the Jersey Shore at Pinto Porch in Manahawkin. This casual spot serves up a spin on classic dishes that showcase the styles and flavors of the region. In particular, the restaurant serves burgers, sandwiches, wraps/burritos, tacos, and more. A real garage start-up, the owner’s original idea is now a total business.

The 1,300-square-foot Pinto’s Porch has patrons order at the counter, before receiving their food at the table. “We refer to our vibe as a modern Southwest,” says Heidi Pinto, who owns the place with her husband John. For example, the dining area features canvases of famous Southwest scenery, and motifs include hot peppers and cacti. Indoor seating 42, as well as a covered outdoor area – the balcony – can accommodate 24 people.

A unique Southern Cuisine experience

Pinto’s Porch positions itself in its own unique cuisine category. “We refer to our food as Southwestern cuisine,” Heidi says. “Although this is not a true category, we do not like to put ourselves in any categories that exist.”

“It’s like BBQ and Tex-Mex and Mexicans have had a baby. We are unique,” adds Heidi. For example, she recommends the breast sauce. “It’s something you will never see anywhere else,” she says. The dish consists of crunchy fries topped with chunks of smoked beef. Likewise, their burgers are a hit, with options like Santa Fe; an 8-ounce char-grilled Angus burger with diced green peppers, red onions, and tomatoes on a brioche bun. “We looked high,” says Heidi. Low on bakery bread has a perfect bun that complements our delicious burgers.”

Carne Asada Fries

Other favorites include Holy Mole flatbread, with mole sauce, oat cheese, cheddar cheese, smoked ham, and pineapple. However, both Heidi and John Wrap love the grilled chicken fajitas. With black beans, corn salad, cheddar cheese, roasted peppers, onions, and chipotle mayonnaise in a warm tortilla.

about the angel

John is originally from the area, but grew up in Phoenix before returning to New Jersey in his early twenties. Meanwhile, Heidi has spent most of her life in Ocean County working in the restaurant industry for nearly 20 years. In fact, she met John while they were working together in a local restaurant. Fluent in American Sign Language, Heidi welcomes the deaf community to visit Pinto Porch.

After moving to a new home together in Manahawkin, John wanted an outdoor cooking area to host guests. Without much patio, he redirected his garage into a fully functional kitchen with a picnic table for outside seating. After several parties, his garage kitchen had a following, a name (Pinto’s Porch), and even bigger ambitions. So John and Heidi took the leap and opened their restaurant; which also sells Lumber Jack Pellets for grills.
