Wilson Tree Poultry Farm is recalling nearly 52,000 pounds of chicken salad and dipping products due to potential contamination with hard white plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
A recall has been categorized as Class I and High Risk by the Service Inspection and Safety Administration, meaning that it is “a hazardous health condition in which there is a reasonable possibility that use of the product will cause serious or adverse health consequences or death.”
However, no consumer has reported adverse side effects to date. FSIS advises anyone experiencing effects from taking these products to go to the hospital immediately.

Wilson Tree Poultry Farm received a complaint from a consumer earlier that week and asked the consumer to send in a photo of the plastic body contained in the product. The company immediately surveyed its facilities and found that a small piece of plastic on its operating line was missing.
While the missing piece was small, it was on the chicken cooking line and thus had the potential to affect thousands of pounds of chicken products, says Wilson Tree Poultry Farm president Walter Cicala.
“It’s a big recall for what might be a very minute amount of a product, but in our minds, hitting a customer is worth the cost of making the recall,” Cicala says.
Wilson Tree Poultry Farm has stopped its production line to replace the missing part and is conducting additional quality control checks twice a day.
The following products were included in the recall. Only products sold by dates from September 3 to September 10 are affected:
- 5 lb container of Willow Tree Premium White Meat Caesar Chicken Dip sold by September 3, 2021 and September 6, 2021.
- 5 lb, 12 oz packages of “Willow Tree Premium White Meat Buffalo Chicken Dip” with sale by September 3, 2021 and September 5, 2021.
- 5 lb container of “Willow Tree Premium White Meat Buffalo Chicken Salad” on sale September 7, 2021.
- 15-ounce container of “Willow Tree Premium White Meat Buffalo Chicken Salad” sold by September 7, 2021 and September 9, 2021.
- 15 ounce container of “Willow Tree Premium White Meat Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad” Sale date by 09/08/2021.
- 15oz container of Willow Tree Premium White Meat Classic Chicken Salad for sale on Date 09/07/2021, 09/08/2021, 09/09/2021, 09/10/2021.
- 7.5oz container of Willow Tree Premium White Meat Classic Chicken Salad sold by 07/09/2021 and 09/09/2021.
- 10 lb container of “Willow Tree Premium White Meat Classic Chicken Salad” dated 09/08/2021 sale.
