return pasta sauce

Several pasta sauces made by Mars Food UK have been recalled after they were found to pose a health risk to some consumers. The recall, which was issued on June 16, is due to an undeclared allergen in which products contain soy. This means that pasta sauces pose a potential health risk to consumers with soy allergy.

According to the company’s announcement posted on the UK Food Standards Agency website, products affected by the recall include a bag of Dolmio Carbonara Pasta Sauce Stir with “Best Before” dates of “February 28, 2023” and “March 1, 2023, and Dolmio Carbonara Pasta Sauce Stir- with “Best Before” dates are “April 26, 2023” and “April 27, 2023.” All products returned were sold in 150g packaging and only products with the “best before” dates mentioned were included in the refund process.

According to a point-of-sale notice shared by the company, the recall is triggered in response to “tracking of unauthorized soybean levels in the product.” According to the Mayo Clinic, a soy allergy is a common food allergy that often begins in childhood with a reaction to soy-based infant formula. While most children outgrow a soy allergy, some carry the allergy into adulthood. An allergic reaction to soybeans can start minutes after eating a food containing soy. Symptoms of a soy allergy include hives or itching in and around the mouth, wheezing, redness of the skin, swelling of the lips, face, tongue, and throat, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. While a soy allergy is not dangerous for most people, in rare cases, an allergy to soy can be life-threatening. According to the Cleveland Clinic, because soybeans are a legume, some people with a soy allergy can have reactions to other legumes, including peanuts, navy beans, kidney beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, pinto beans, and peas.

Although the presence of soybeans does not pose a risk to all consumers, Mars Food UK is still ahead of the recall. The company advised consumers with soy allergies not to eat the recalled pasta sauces. Consumers should instead call the Dolmio Customer Service line at 0800952 1234 (UK) or 1890812315 (Northern Ireland) for a full refund. Alternatively, products can be returned to a store for a full refund. The Food Standards Agency noted that the company has also contacted relevant allergy support organizations, which will inform their members about the recall.
