Smelly problem makes Mexican food lose points at inspection – Herald Democrat

By Jerry Whiteley Democratic Herald

Strong sewer smell, leaky pipes, and a lack of proper labeling have earned Sherman’s Mexican Restaurant the lowest score awarded in recent Grayson County Health Department inspections.

Camino Viejo Restaurant, 110 E. Houston, in Sherman, received the only “C” grade in the latest round of inspections.

Restaurants are awarded a grade of “A”, “B”, “C” or “F”. A means that health workers reported no minor violations or that they reported some minor violations. Those with a “B” were found to have several minor violations but none major. Restaurants with the letter “C” may have a gross or repeat infringement, but in the opinion of the inspectors, nothing is bad enough to warrant an “F.”

A means health workers reported 10 or fewer defects. Those with “B” received 11-20 defects. Restaurants rated “C” had 21-30 defects and restaurants rated “F” received more than 30 defects.

The Camino Viejo inspection report says the inspection took place on June 21. The inspector took starting points because the entire establishment smelled of sewage gas and reported that the establishment needed to seek plumber’s help for this problem.

In addition, there were reportedly leaky pipes in the kitchen. I also included several containers of beans and rice that had been cooked overnight and not properly cooled to the proper temperature for maximum safety.

The report says the food processor was seen handling the soiled dishes and then handling the clean dishes without washing his hands in between.
