The 50 Best Ice Cream Shops in Massachusetts – According to You

Boston – If you live in Massachusetts, no matter your area, there’s probably a top-of-the-line homemade ice cream shop located just a short drive away. In fact, the Bay Staters may have won the grand prize for the summer.

“I think Massachusetts is probably leading the country in homemade ice cream,” said Sundae school owner Paul Endres, whose Cape Cod stores were crowned the 2021 “Ultimate Favorite” at WBZ’s Ice Cream Social bracket. “The competition is very tough. There are so many great ice cream spots.”

“I’ve traveled to this country for CBS News, and I’ve visited every state,” CBS News’ Steve Hartman said in his award announcement. “And I can attest that no one knows ice cream better than New Englanders!”

So, with the help of WBZ viewers, we’ve put together this handy guide to the area’s most popular ice cream kiosks—from the North Shore to the South Shore, and from Metro West to Cape Cod.

Thousands of you answered our call, and recommended over 400 individual stores, when we asked to listen to your local favorites.

So grab a glass, a cone, or splurge on a sundae! Here are your top 50 Massachusetts favorites, broken down by region. Those in bold are named in the 2021 Sweet 16 category, based on the number of nominations.
