There is nothing better than a perfectly prepared pie. The crusty crust, the delicious filling, the unusual flavors – they make our mouths water when you think about it. Here in Idaho there are some great pie shops across the state that have perfected the process of making pies. So, we created this pie shop road trip to sample some of the best pies in Idaho. While we’re fortunate to enjoy delicious pancakes across the state, this road trip focuses solely on the miscellaneous. It’s definitely a sweet ride!
This road trip begins at Sandpoint and moves to the small town of Derry near Moscow. You will travel about 215 miles and should plan for at least 4.5 hours of driving time. While it is certainly short enough to complete the drive in one day, we suggest splitting this adventure into two days.
1. Pay hut, Sandpoint
502 Church St A, Sandpoint, ID 83864, USA
Our road trip begins at one of the most popular pie shops in northern Idaho – The Pie Hut. This pie shop may be small but it is fun in every way. You can order a whole pie or just a slice, and there are so many flavors to choose from every day. We recommend trying a slice of blueberry pie. People have visited this pie shop from all over the country just to get a bite!
2. Clark Fork Pantry, Clark Fork
204 W 4th Ave, Clark Fork, ID 83811, USA
You’ll have to get a little out of the way to try the pie at this small town bakery, but believe us, it’ll be worth it. At Clark Fork Pantry you’ll find all-natural, homemade, preservative-free baked goods. There are a variety of pie flavors on the shelves every day, including many popular flavors like apple, peach, and cherry. You might want to grab some delicious baked goods for the road, too.
3. Birdie Pie Shop, Post Falls
1003 N Spokane St, Post Falls, ID 83854, USA
Birdies is a delicious pancake shop specializing in all kinds of pancakes from cold, warm, savory and sweet. There are multiple locations in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area, but on this road trip, we stop at their location in Post Falls. Here you’ll find many traditional pie flavors like the apple and lemon key, but we suggest checking out the delicious options like taco pie, spaghetti pie, and delicious ham and cheese pie.
4. Olive Pastries at Bee Barn, Post Falls
26433 W Hwy 53, Post Falls, ID 83854, USA
Be prepared for a tough decision as you must choose from nearly two dozen pie flavors at Olives Pastry in Bay Barn. This charming Northern Idaho bakery offers just that choice but no matter what you order, the crust is what will impress you. Pie Barn’s olive pastries are known for their flaky, buttery crust and you need to try it for yourself.
5. Bean and Pie, Coeur d’Alene
504 E Sherman Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814, USA
Bean and Pie is a great pie shop located in Coeur d’Alene. All pancakes are made from scratch and you will find a very extensive menu. You can order whole pies and hand pies, sweet or savory. Make sure to buy a muffin cup or two for the road. This is basically a loose pie that features layers of pie filling, crumbs or topping, and whipped cream.
6. Pie Bakery and Kitchen Safe, baby
307 Main St, Deary, ID 83823, USA
Located in a historic building on Main Derry Street, this is a bakery that makes all of its pies just as your grandmother makes them: handmade, filling, and absolutely delicious. The pie selection at Pie Safe Bakery & Kitchen rotates so if you choose to stay in town for a few days before venturing home, be sure to stop by to see what new flavors might be on the menu.
