Where to eat from August 1 to September 30

For anyone who loves food, August and September in Miami are always something to look forward to. Miami Spice is a two-month restaurant promotion, organized by the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) 21 years ago, with the goal of attracting tourists to Miami during its low season. While this is certainly no longer a problem, the Miami Spice tradition is a local one and visitors look forward to every year.

This year, lunch/brunch menus will be priced at $28, while dinner will be either $45 or $60, up slightly from last year — and for the first time, there will be two different tiers. These prices include appetizers, appetizers and dessert. (Taxes, gratuities and spills are additional.) According to GMCVB, two different price points were introduced for dinner this year to maintain the program’s commitment to value and allow more restaurants to participate, with an ongoing focus on flexibility and choice. The difference between the two levels reflects the cost of the appetizers and the ingredients used. Restaurants may choose to offer one or two dinner menu option(s) as long as the menus reflect value and savings when compared to current menu prices. As of press time, nearly 150 restaurants are participating, with daily additions expected of even the most popular Spice.

Some of the new additions this year include Leku at the Rubell Museum (they’re hosting an early preview, so diners can enjoy Miami Spice shows early now); Chug’s Diner designed by James Beard-nominated chef Michael Beltran and recently awarded Michelin Pepe Gourmand; Hoja Taqueria by the team behind Broken Shaker; Casa Isola, the Italian location for James Beard-nominated chef Jose Menden; New York imported the Michelin-starred Cote Miami.

The kitchen at Kaori in Brickell is now run by Cuban-Chinese-Colombian Executive Chef Raymond Lee (former chef at El Cielo Hospitality Group, who started Li’s Dimsum family-focused concept during the pandemic) serving artful, umami-filled Pan-Asian dishes. “Our menu this year is a mix between our signatures and [new] Among the specials they serve this year, Crispy Prawns, Li’s tribute to the late Joël Robuchon, which he learned to make during his time at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon In Paris.

For vegetarians and anyone interested in vegan food, Miami Beach’s Full Bloom Vegan Cuisine, voted Best Vegetarian Restaurant in the US by TripAdvisor in 2021, debuts this year. Owner Omar Barberini shares that he will be serving up some of his popular dishes featuring the best of internationally-inspired cuisine prepared by Venezuelan-born Executive Chef Chris Rojas, who previously worked at Norman Van Aken’s 180 and Zuma.

Chef Adrien Calvo, who recently celebrated 15 years of her signature gourmet brand, Maximum Flavor, has been involved in Miami Spice for 10 years. “We love Miami Spice and how it makes Miami more focused on food during August and September,” she said. “Everyone is obsessed with where to go and what to try. Energy is contagious!” Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard’s restaurant and wine bar will offer this year’s Miami Spice dinner menu, as well as brunch. Guests can look forward to bestsellers like brown sugar crusted salmon, 24-hour braised short ribs, sweet corn tamales, and new items like wahoo sashimi.

Her restaurant Cracked is also joining for the first time this year. “We wanted to offer a new option to our loyal fans and give a chance to those who haven’t tried [the restaurant] yet to experience it. Putting everything in a concise, organized menu where guests can choose from three courses, gives them three great chances to fall in love with Cracked! “
